Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. NRC is seeking Directors General to join the ranks of its senior management team.

NRC’s employees are its single greatest asset. They are client-focused and collaborative innovators that solve competitive technology problems with impactful solutions. As an organization, it is uniquely positioned to deliver high value to its clients and collaborators through a focus on the advancement of research knowledge, the support of governmental priorities and the resolution of industrial challenges.

Reporting to a Vice President, the Director General will be a leader of highly-skilled researchers and technical staff, organized in multi-disciplinary teams, supported by large-scale facilities and leading edge equipment.  He/she will be responsible for the management of the human resources, the facilities, the research and business activities and the stakeholder engagement as the head of one of NRC’s Research Centres.

The impact of these activities is to realize a major return on investment and generate economic, social and environmental benefits to Canadians. As Director General, you will ensure that stakeholders and their needs are effectively analyzed and understood by maintaining and enhancing relationships with senior officials of industry, government, universities and foreign organizations to underscore a continued awareness of changes in client and collaborator needs and to address these in current and future programs.

As a well-qualified candidate for this position, you bring significant experience in developing, maintaining and leveraging strategic partnerships, research collaborations and client relationships with industrial research partners including technology organizations, private sector firms, government departments/agencies, and academia. You have recent experience in the development, marketing and transfer of technology from scientific organizations to industry. An outstanding communicator and relationship builder, you have lead multidisciplinary teams within large, complex organizations. In addition to your business and financial acumen, your capacity to drive strategic growth will be highly valued. As an ideal candidate, you possess a university degree in a relevant field and an ability to communicate in both official languages.  If you have the desired profile and are retained as a successful candidate but haven’t yet had an opportunity to learn a second language, we are open to providing you with dedicated training at the onset of your appointment.
