We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Applications System Administrator to support our Construction Research Centre and maintain Codes Canada’s support systems including its Content Management System (CMS). The Applications System Administrator would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity, excellence and collaboration.

The incumbent will be responsible for administration, planning, testing, installation, configuration and maintenance of existing TeamSite CMS and supporting services; and CMS content stores for Codes Canada. The incumbent will co-operate with SSC/NRC KITS on planning, development, testing, installation, configuration or upgrading servers, operating systems, packages as related to system tools and user productivity tools for Codes Canada.

This position provides technical advice, training and assistance to internal clients and is a subject matter resource on technical aspects of Codes Canada applications, operating systems including its CMS, systems development and security standards. The incumbent represents the project team in discussions with internal clients and technical staff to explain issues of a technical nature or to resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities also include producing specifications and technical documentation for installation and configuration, and maintenance procedures; and evaluating new technologies/applications and providing recommendations to staff.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:


Bachelor of Computer Science.

Candidates who have acquired computer skills and knowledge through academic training in another university program or at a community college and who have relevant experience in Unix OS and TeamSite administration may also be considered.

A Systems Administration certification in Unix and Systems Administration certification for TeamSite would be an asset.


Significant and recent experience in system administration in Unix and TeamSite on Unix Solaris OS.

Significant and recent experience in installation, configuration and maintenance programming language modules (Perl and Python would be an asset), XML processing and publishing tools on Unix Solaris OS.

Significant and recent experience in troubleshooting technical problems on Unix Solaris OS.

Experience working in a project management focused environment.

Knowledge of methods and practices of computer science, applications system administration, application development, departmental IT systems methodologies, the Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) and applications management systems.

Knowledge of backup, recovery, continuity and survivability methods, techniques and practices.

Knowledge of policy and program objectives within departmental and partner organizations to provide relevant technical services and advice to clients, and to resolve various systems issues.

Ability to interpret technical and procedural problems including equipment malfunctions and identify client requirements and concerns, and to design develop and maintain operating systems.

Ability to communicate in writing to develop specifications and documentation, back-up and recovery procedures and to develop technical reports including recommendations to management

Salary range

  • From $64,878 to $81,466 per annum.
  • An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $176 per month.
